Mold also often has a foul smell making it easy to detect. Algae can also grow on the roof and cause damage to the singles it grows on. Algae is not as much of a health concern as mold is, but it does deteriorate the shingles and should be removed as soon as possible. Algae is a deep green color but does not have the smell that mold does.
